Reach in unit
This is arguably one of the most common types of commercial refrigeration units. Reach-in refrigerators are almost a souped-up commercial equivalent to the fridge you would find in your home. A standard reach-in is typically a tall standing unit with anywhere from one to three doors. Although there are models available with larger capacity, additional doors and other variations.
Because these units use their vertical height to provide storage space, they are far more space efficient than other models. Reach-in refrigerators are also designed to keep a low interior temperature even when the doors are repeatedly opened. This makes them ideal for storing high volume products that need to be easily accessible.
Undercounter units
These units share similarities with reach-in units, but they quickly distinguish themselves with their low profile and versatility. As the name implies, under-counter units are a low and wide unit intended to fit underneath a counter or bar. Much like other reach-in models, under-counter units provide fast and easy access to products you need.
Unlike other refrigeration models, under-counter units can be used outside of the kitchen while remaining out of sight of customers. Because of their compact build and lack of visibility, they are an ideal choice for smaller establishments, food trucks or concessions.
Refrigerated prep tables
Similar to under-counter units, refrigerated prep tables stand at a low height but have the added bonus of multi-functionality. Most refrigerated prep tables are outfitted with removable cutting boards or lifting hoods that reveal containers of ingredients. The advantage of this type of unit is that it allows for prep work and food assembly to be done while having instant access to refrigerated storage.
The features of refrigerated prep tables make them best suited for fast paced production and ideal for assembly style food like sandwiches, salads, and pizzas. Of course, you can find many models available with a variety of different specifications and features based on your needs.
While these are the most common types of commercial refrigerators, there are many other models to consider. Finding the right equipment for your kitchen depends on your available space, budget, what food you produce and many other factors. Just remember that commercial equipment is an investment you do not want to rush into. Take the time to shop around and consider your options before deciding.
